What are barristers?

Part of the ‘true’ types of lawyer (in that ADR Practitioners, which we have included in this section, are not true lawyers), barristers are the people who represent you (in the majority of cases) in court. There are different types of barrister, depending on the type of work which they wish to undertake and also on their experience.

What is interesting at the moment is that there used to be very strict rules governing the instruction of barristers. These are in the process of being relaxed – a fundamental change to the UK’s system of law – and these changes could well be significant in the near future.
