Information on tenancy deposits for tenants

As a tenant you will almost always have to pay a deposit when entering a tenancy agreement. A landlord is subject to strict regulations under the Tenancy Deposit Protection scheme in relation to taking your deposit, protecting it through the duration of the tenancy, and returning it upon termination of the tenancy.

In fact, if a landlord does not protect your deposit, they can be ordered to repay three times the amount of the deposit to you.

In this section we have information on:

  • Paying deposits
  • A landlord’s duty to lodge deposits
  • Returning deposits and reasonable deductions
  • Deposit disputes
  • Remedies for non-compliance with the Tenancy Deposit Protection scheme
