Immigration services

The UK, is one of the most popular immigration destinations. In 2012 the UK gained 497,000 new immigrants - with 321,000 people emigrating*. However, immigration is not necessarily a straightforward process.

Speak to us if you are thinking about emigrating to the UK, or another country from the UK, and we can recommend a specialist immigration solicitor to speed up the process for you.

Emigrating to the UK

Emigrating to the UK can be straightforward, especially for those from the EU where free movement of people and workers in all member states is promoted and cannot be discriminated against.

Certain people from countries outside the EU may also find it easier to immigrate to the UK and become naturalised if, for example, their spouse is a UK citizen or if they speak English fluently and so do not have a language barrier to overcome during their stay.

However, despite reforms which should make the immigration process easier and simpler, there are still a number of legal problems that can be encountered and for which an immigration service is needed.

The need for immigration services

Much of the immigration laws in the UK have adapted over the years to deal with larger numbers of immigrants as well as political changes.

The rules on immigration will also differ from each person to the next as country of origin and nationality of a spouse will impact on the possibility of immigration and naturalisation into the UK.

It comes as no surprise, therefore, that there is a growing demand for immigration services as many people battle legal cases to keep themselves in the UK or to bring over their friends and families.

There are a number of immigration services across the country that supplies both information and assistance on all aspects of immigration and naturalisation.

How can an immigration solicitor help?

The typical queries that people take to immigration services include questions about their status as an immigrant in the UK, for example:

  • Questions regarding access to healthcare and benefits
  • When they can apply for naturalisation

An immigration service can offer comprehensive and expert legal advice on all immigration and asylum matters. There are a number of very serious situations, such as threatened deportation and detention, which some specialist immigration services may concentrate on.

Nevertheless, experienced lawyers at an immigration service can also give advice on matters such as:

  • Finding work legally
  • How to become naturalised
  • When they right to vote will be conferred upon a foreign national residing in the UK

At an immigration service information is also available that will assist those with friends and family abroad and advice can be given on when it will be possible to bring friends or family over to either live or to visit.

Some people who have emigrated to the UK encounter problems at ports and airports where their friends and family are told they are not allowed to remain in the UK due to that person’s immigrant status. For these problems there are a number of immigration services which will offer a hotline to call for instant, on-the-spot advice.

From small queries to sensitive issues, lawyers at immigration services can assist on a large range of immigration problems. Some immigration services also provide 24-hour hotlines for more urgent immigration issues.
