Ending employment FAQs

This began as a set of FAQs on dismissals, but we have expanded it to include information on any way in which you might leave your place of employment - whether in conflict or not. We have included FAQs on:

  • Unfair dismissal
  • Wrongful dismissal
  • Retirement
  • Redundancy
  • Constructive dismissal

It is important to know the difference between the types of dismissal that might affect you. Equally, it is important to know what to expect, and what to demand, if you're going through a redundancy, as employment law insists on certain rights for employees.

These rights can be eroded, as the Coalition Government did in 2012 by raising the minimum employment period before a claim for unfair dismissal can be brought from one to two years. This is one reason why it's important to get as much advice as possible by speaking to a solicitor.

If you're unsure about the legality of your dismissal or you think you might be under threat of dismissal, or you're simply concerned about your pension, call us on 0800 1777 162 and we will get you in touch with a solicitor who will ensure you receive the best-possible advice.
