Family disputes

Unfortunately, family disputes, whether between partners or parents and children, arise rather frequently. When disputes have a legal aspect they can be particularly distressing – not only do you have to worry about the emotional strain of the dispute, but also the legal elements.

Having a solicitor to advise you or represent you may help to ease the distress of a family dispute and come to a resolution. Often, alternative dispute resolution methods, such as family mediation or a collaborative law approach, are effective.

In this section we have outlined information on:

  • Types of family disputes (including children, civil partnerships, marriage, divorce and separation, domestic violence)
  • Family mediation
  • Collaborative law
  • Attending family court proceedings

This section focuses mostly on resolving family disputes. For more general information on family law please look in the family law section.
