Dealing with sexual harassment in London

If you work for an employer in London, and think you have become the victim of sexual harassment, your rights are protected under the Sexual Discrimination Act 1975. All employers in London must take action if their employees make any complaint about sexual harassment at their workplace. You can suffer from physical, verbal or non-verbal sexual harassment. If you are unsure about the circumstances of your alleged sexual harassment, contact a solicitor with experience of discrimination law as soon as you can.

The first thing you should do if you feel that sexual harassment has taken place is to make a formal complaint to your employer in London. They are bound by discrimination laws to take your complaint seriously. London employers should have a formal complaints procedure you can follow. Check your employment handbook for further details.

At the end of the complaints procedure if you are not satisfied with the outcome, or the sexual harassment continues, you can then take your complaint to an employment tribunal. You can only do this if your alleged sexual harassment took place within the last three months. London has many law firms that include employment solicitors that have wide experience of discrimination that can help you with your case.

Your employer in London will have their own legal representation, as an employment tribunal is operated in much the same way as a court of law. It is vital, therefore, that you also have fully qualified legal support when you attend your hearing. Sexual harassment in London, as across the country, is taken very seriously indeed. Your solicitor can be a great help clarifying the current sexual harassment laws and also supporting you as your case progresses.
